Sydney Metro - Central Station Platform Excavation
2019 - 2020
JDK Geotech was engaged by the Laing O'Rouke to undertake geotechnical investigation work above the new Central Walk. The project is being constructed using a 'top down' construction methodology and involves excavation down to the new metro tunnels 27m below ground level. After the removal of platforms 13, 14 and 15 at the beginning of the project, our team built the new intercity platforms which are being used as a traffic deck during the construction of the permanent structure.
JDK was able to deliver the scope of work without damage to sensitive surface rail infrastructure or disruption to the rail network. The implementation of systematic geotechnical data capture through industry-best technology initiated through JDK's experience on similar infrastructure projects, aided in a streamlined information transfer to the principal contractor to fulfil the requirements of the design.
