Oaky Creek Coal Mine is located in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin, 90 kilometres north-west of Emerald and 46 kilometres south-west of Middlemount. The coal is exported through the ports of Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal south of Mackay and from the Port of Gladstone.
The operation is a joint venture between Glencore (55%), Sumisho Coal Australia P/L (25%), Itochu Coal Resources Australia P/L (10%) and ICRA OC P/L (10%).

JDK was engaged to undertake ad-hoc underground geotechnical coverage as required by the client (Glencore). Under the supervision of site management, JDK was responsible for providing extensive geotechnical expertise to interpret the practices used to manage and control underground coal mining risk. JDK’s geotechnical vast knowledge coupled with stakeholder communication enabled the efficient capability of our deliverables to the Glencore team. JDK was able to utilise industry best practices to ensure geotechnical risk was identified, captured and communicated.
